| | | Yeah, our marching band percussion section was really hardcore. Despite the kids being major potheads, you definitely could not call them burnouts or slackers. While the bulk of the marching band started practicing in late July, percussion rehearsals began in June. And our top drummers would actually write out solos and section features. They were all really intelligent, talented, and hardworking. Even after they got busted for pot, even the band directors still really respected them for their work. |

Re: Are drummers geeks To all ha,ha;
Even though we as drummers are and look quite different, my observations over the years is that generally there seems to be a bit of common ground (maybe geeky or excentric ) I list a few below.......
-Most drummers I know seem to be energetic and stay in relative good nick for body and mind, it is a physical kind of playing (a) musical instrument(s)!! Quite the contrarary to the navel gazing introverted (bass) guitarists.(sloughed postures etc.) for example.
-They: seem to age with some kind of dignity(ahemmm)
- do like a tipple.
- do not take too much crap from anyone.
- are good for a lough.
- tend to give the girl the eye.
- do not like to be told.
- love playing encores. ( fit in that that lick or solo in the process)
- transport their gear reluctantly and use weird containers.
- are great interruptors of other peoples speach, like syncopations!
What do you guys think, can you recognize/underwrite some of my observations or know other ones that would qualify??
Happy Drumming, cheers, Harry |

Re: Are drummers geeks I really don't think drummers are geeks at all. I play snare on my drumline, and we're pretty hardcore. It's just how you're raised I guess. |

They're all big stoners haha. But they're still respected. Actually the biggest stoner was the best snare drummer last year =| |

Re: Are drummers geeks I think drummers are just a unique breed of people. Personally speaking, I would live, eat, and breath drumming if it was not for the periodic round of golf. And even then drum talk is usually present in one way shape or form. I fit most of the characteristics mentioned in the original post. |

Re: Are drummers geeks Actually I guess in some small way I could be considered a geek because...hehe...I will be in school and get a hecka bad urge and yell in the middle of class "God I want to Drum!" and I always talk about 'em so idunno does that make me a geek...dunno really, but don't really care if it does! | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
