Back to the drums after 40 years

Still have my original jazz kit Ludwigs 4 piece with zildjians which are in great shape and because I live in a condo, I bought an e set of Roland's and after a little skepticism and lots of practice my stone hands are coming back. Looking forward to your advice and encouragement! I have been playing as possible and I obsessed with the drums

Welcome to DSC. My first kit was a 1959 Ludwig black onyx rock set with Paste cymbals.

That was back in 1962.

Happy drumming and welcome back to the drumming world.

Just wondering which Roland E-kit you bought. I've been thinking of buying one. (I would have to sell one of my acoustic kits for the cash, before I can "get clearance from the tower") thanks, Larry

That's great that you've come back to drumming after 40 years! That's inspiring to me. I have a few students here at home who are retired and in both of them I see a revitalized youthful grin when we're drumming to some tunes in my lesson studio. Life is all about doing what you love!

Re: Back to the drums after 40 years

I'm sort of in the same boat, but I gig a couple times a year with my old high school buddies. What I found to be helpful is open mic nights. We have a local one here in my town that I have been to a few times. No pressure and it's a lot of fun. I wish the internet was available when I was younger......I've learned so many things the last few years online and have been inspired at the same time.

We're gonna need a bigger boat!

Seems like quite a few of us are in the "same boat" of returning to playing after a long time off and also needing an electric kit in order to play without family or neighbors complaining. I also have my original Ludwig kit from the mid-sixties which I've added to from EBay, but almost never get to play it. Bought a Roland V-Tour kit a while back. It's not the same, but it's better than nothing.

Welcome back to all the geezers keeping their youth alive through drumming!
