Dave's double-stroke warm-up challenge!

This one looks simple, but I found it challenging to play it at a steady tempo.

All double-strokes (RRLL), quarter-note equals 100 bpm, play it in this order without stopping:

2 measures of 8th notes
2 measures of 8th note triplets
2 measures of 16th notes
2 measures of 16th note triplets
2 measures of 32nd notes
2 measures of 16th note triplets
2 measures of 16th notes
2 measures of 8th note triplets
2 measures of 8th notes

Good luck!

Here's a video demonstration I made:

If you guys have any warm-up challenges, feel free to post them...

Re: Dave's double-stroke warm-up challenge!

For all drummers especially beginning drummers, I do both this and triplets weekly sometimes daily and have for years since Jr. High School (Middle School). As Dave will tell you it makes a huge difference in your groove! I know for a fact Buddy Rich did too!

Hi Danny, thanks for the reply. I agree that rudiments are fundamental to developing a good groove. If Buddy Rich did it, then it must be right!
