Time Signature Battles
Hey Forum!
So I know it's a little clish-eh (I'm Canadian) to propose MORE drum battles, but I just want to throw this idea out there. No takers necessary!
What about drum battles set in certain time-signatures? For example, there could be a battle where everyone involved has to show off their 6/8-3/4 chops! Or even, for the more adventurous, 7/4. Or anything really! I'm just tired of all the battles being metal-heads pounding their double bass in 4/4
I think it shows real sophistication to be able to bang melodiously in a not-as-common time signature. Besides, 6/8 isn't all that hard. It's really fun once you get the hang of it! Just remember....swung is NOT the same as 6/8! People just get lazy sometimes
Anyway, if anyone's interested, I just got my mics up and working, so I'd be willing to have some fun!
Battle's open to as many people as we can get. It can be like an arena
Happy drumming folks!

How about a good ol' 6/8ths battle?

I like it. Classic.
I just need a few days to get my gear together...I just got a new interface and preamp, and I need a firewire card, hook it up, and test out my gear. And I'm going to a week-long drumming camp on the 21st...so unless I'm VERY motivated (not usually... ) I might not even get to recording it until the 28th or 30th.
But thanks for replying! We'll see if anyone else wants in on this! And I guess we don't have to all do the same time signature...OR it could be a medley of all kinds! Like onenpart 6/8, and one part 7/4, and then 9/8 or something to that magnitude!
How's it sound? Or do you just want to stick to one?
This sounds like fun!

That's fine with me, take as much time as ya want/need.
That whole medley idea sounds fun as well, sounds like good time!
But I leave it up to the majority vote if other people join in on this.
So how about we post our videos on the 30th?

Re: Time Signature Battles
Okay cool.
Umm could we post them on like...the first maybe? I may need a little more time to set up and...*ahem*...practice
But my solo will probably be improvised anyway, to a certain degree
We can also use this time to see how many others want to join.
Oh, by the way, how long have you been playing?
And should we establish rules on, say, double-bass, and time length? Because it may not be fair to have a 2 minute solo, then a half-hour masterpiece

Sounds good. I usually don't play double bass, but can still play it.
I've been playing for over 10 years, I lost track.
Keep it under 5 minutes

Re: Time Signature Battles
Okay well I don't have a double bass, but you can use yours (tastefully) if you want.
Good. I can work with that...
And just...because, I've got this kind of kit. Three toms, one bass, one snare. Pretty standard. Just so we're on the same page.

I have a 5 piece kit as well. No worries.

Re: Time Signature Battles
Okay so I've been having a few problems with Sonar and my interface. First of all, a lot of the time my computer can't even see my interface, and when it does, Sonar usually doesn't. When (finally) they both do, I've only managed to actually record audio once. After that, it just doesn't send any.
I'll be trying my hardest to fix it, but if I can't do it in time, please forgive me. I'll let you know when I have it.
Thanks for the patience.
Stay tuned drummers (and drums!)

I already recorded my piece using just my webcam. So i'm not being too high tech, but the sound is great and the video is standard quality. So whatever you want to use to record is fine, whether it be high end or low end.
