What genres do you play?

Hey everybody, I'm just wondering what everybody likes around here. From what I've seen recently there's a somewhat diverse taste in music, but let's see if there's a common ground.

The most general description of my favorite music would be rock/metal, but of course I like a lot of other things like grunge/punk stuff, some funk, and jazz. Specifically, I'm really into progressive right now, like Opeth, Tool, Bulb, and Animals As Leaders (that's a pretty broad description of prog ).

I play guitar as well as drums and I'm starting to make my own music, but I'm not quite experienced enough to play the riffs that would make sense with the drumming I'd like to do. Because of that I'm playing more rock style stuff somewhere in between the Foo Fighters and Led Zeppelin (without the Page solos).

So what kind of music do you like to play? and if it's any different, what do you listen to or want to start playing?

Re: What genres do you play?

I played guitar when I was younger, and started playing again a few years ago---mostly rock, but also some country and blues. everything from ac/dc to zz top---hank sr, charlie daniels, willie nelson, al dimeola, george benson etc. I have always been one of those guys who liked to bang on anything that I could find to keep time with the music, so about a year ago I decided to try to learn to play drums. I have my kit set up primarily for hard rock since that is what I listen to most. I doubt I will ever be very good, but I an having a blast, and making a lot of noise!! I am also building and playing 3 and 4 string cigar box guitars, and solid body electrics. the cigar box guitars are more of a blues thing, and I am working on some original songs and hope to play my own drum tracks to go with them.

Re: What genres do you play?

I love blues. If I'm just messing around on guitar it's almost always bluesy stuff. I'm into SRV more than anybody else, but I guess I'm not well educated in blues, so I'm sure there are others I might like better. I like Guthrie Govan, too, but he's more of a shredder who does some nice blues stuff than a blues guitarist.

( oh no, a guitar video on a drum forum!!)
