Re: Tama Artstar kit

Hi Jared, sorry, I just found the email regarding this post in my spam folder. With the Holidays I haven't had time to set up the drums and work on them. I want to check them out and see if I like them. But, I may be interested in selling them. Any ideas of what they are worth? thanks, Larry

Re: Tama Artstar kit

Jared, I have the drums set up and have been playing them. I am really liking the sound. I think I am going to hang on to them for a little while and see how they work out for me. I have two other kits, but I am thinking about selling one to get money for an electronic kit. Not sure yet. Money is tight. I will definately keep you in mind though. Thanks, Larry

Re: Tama Artstar kit

Hello Der Trommler, sorry to take so long. Yes the bass drum hooks are different. Most of them have wings, a few don't. According to the online catalogs from Tama, they should not have the "wings". I'm not sure what happened here. I have set up the drums and have been playing them. They sound great. I will send close up pics of the hardware soon. Again, thanks for your help, Larry

Re: Tama Artstar kit

Hey there again,
I was just thinking Larry, if you were interested in making a little
Money and still keeping the basic artstar kit..I would be interested in just making
You an offer on the 16" floor Tom. Since that is the drum that is totally trashed on
My double bass kit. Been lookin everywhere, and I just cant find a replacement.
That way you could make some cash and still
have the 22" 13" and 14" left over for jamming. Just a thought, so yeah if I don't
hear back from you man I will just assume your keeping the kit. You got a great
Deal on them!! Keep drumming and God bless!! Later

Re: Tama Artstar kit

Those are Artstar Customs which have thicker tom shells than the Artstar (1mm to be exact), and are all Canadian Maple shells as opposed to the Cordia and Birch shells.

The Artstar Maple Customs were introduced in 1994 and were produced until 2002.

Your pictures indicate it has the Piano Black finish. There are a couple of things that seem odd to me about this set. The first being the hoops in the picture are triple flange and the AS Customs were only offered with die cast hoops and the other is the bass drum claw hooks should be cast (can't tell from this picture if they are or are not) and should not have wings on them.

When you are able post a close up picture of the bass drum claw hook assembly if you would.[/quote]

Hey Der Trommler, sorry it took months to get back with pics. Half the lugs on the drum have wings, the others don't. Also, all the rims are triple flanged. Maybe the guy swapped them out at some time. Do you think it would be better to put die cast hoops on the drums? Thanks Larry http://www.drumsetconnect.com/drum-f...ms113-475.html

Re: Tama Artstar kit

If you want to restore it to it's original condition you would want to go back to cast hoops. They will definitely make the drums sound different than the triple flanged hoops and will without a doubt make the kit worth more money if you were to sell it to a collector, or someone that wants the kit they started playing on way back when.

If you plan on keeping them and aren't to particular you may want to keep them just like they are.
