looking for a low budget splash

I am putting my first drumkit together, and something seems to be missing in the cymbal department---I currently have Zildjian 14" hats, 16 crash, 20 ride, and 18 china---(all ZBT), and a Sabian B8 18 crash ride. I think they sound pretty good for entry level, and I bought them used, but undamaged on the cheap, and I can't decide what size/brand splash I should look for---any thoughts?

Re: looking for a low budget splash

I would recommend an 8" or 10" splash. 10" is probably the most versitile of the two.

Re: looking for a low budget splash

I am leaning toward the 10" , and thinking about trying a Wuhan for my first one---my music room is only 9' x 11', so testing the sound at the music store seems useless to me at this point---guess I'll just have to take my chances!

Re: looking for a low budget splash

I use Paiste Signature Series splashes. After hitting every splash known to man I found these sounded the best to my ears. The paiste Alpha Metal Splash as well as the Sabian AAX splashes sounded good to me as well.

I would try hitting a few and narrowing it down to one or two and then shop ebay and craigslist to find one reasonably priced.

The Sabian AAX does sound good at the store---If I can find a used one for a good price that would be my first choice---thanks for the advice!

There is a 10" AAX Splash listed on the Denver craiglist for $45, not a bad price.

Re: looking for a low budget splash

I have been looking on craigslist for months here in Clearwater, Fl. with no success, and I won't buy any kind of music gear without getting my hands (in this case sticks) on it first, so Evil-bay is not really an option!

I can certainly understand that position. If you wish to look into this cymbal I can help you out, I am not too far from Denver. Let me know.
