cymbals

Can anyone explain why we are suddenly flooded with lots of different cymbal makes. Up until recently we have only had the old makes, Ziljian, Sabian, Paiste etc. now we have many Turkish brands and some Italian ones. Are these new ones as good or perhaps even better? They are certainly cheaper although not by a great deal.

Re: cymbals

Mike, I think (and I could be wrong) that many of those other cymbal makers have been around for quite a while. They used to just sell their product in their country, but with globalization, they've now found avenues which allow for them to sell their product globally.

Re: cymbals

Many thanks for that, I have remembered that I had a pair of UFIP hats in the 80ties which were very good and I also remember a make named Tosco being used by a few people so I think you are right in your assumption.
I am pleased that other make are coming through and a little competition may bring the prices down which is always a good thing.

Mike

Re: cymbals

You betcha Mike! I've got a couple of buddies who play Meinl as well as UFIP and I can't say anything bad about any of them!! I hope you're right and that cymbal prices do come down. I think that what is used to make cymbals and the growing scarcity of resources is also having a cost impact.
