Those Signias are gorgeous! I never had the honor of owning a set, but I always wanted some.

Re: Help me back into drumming...

Thanks Bro! Just a beautiful kit and the sound was just so clean. This kit was actually played by Virgil Donatti at a Clinic he did here in Tampa in the mid 90's. They were some of the nicest kit I owned, but I would put my DW's in the same category...

Re: Help me back into drumming...

Der,

Here's the deal. I haven't picked one up yet, but after alot of research and changing my mind, I have narrowed it down. I think? I originally settled on a 5pc. Tama Superstar Hyperdrive lacquer kit, but now I have thrown both the Mapex Saturn IV and the Tama Starclassic Performer B/B into the mix. However, if I were to opt for either of the two higher-end kits, I really need to sit down and actually play them. I found a "stright up" drum store that claims to have a large selection, so this weekend I plan on paying them a visit and see what happens. If I fall back to the superstar, I won't feel too bad, as that will leave me with more cash for some nice cymbals. Either way I will let you guys know what I go with. Oh, and I will definitley post some photos when I have the new kit!

Well by considering a Maple/Walnut and Birch/Bubinga shells that tells me you want the brightness of Birch but with a deeper tone.

Typically Maple is a little warmer and sustains longer, while Birch is a little brighter and has more punch. A mix of the two would conceivably give you the perfectly balanced shell.

No matter which you end up with from what you have listed above, you will be very happy with your choice.

....and pictures of the new purchase are mandatory!

The Mapex Saturn IV look really nice on paper. I`ll be interested to know what they sound like when you test them out. Give us a quick review after you`ve visited the store.

Couldn't agree with you more; the Saturns I've hit sound great and look great. Mapex is an excellent choice as well, even though they're not as well known around the US. They make great drums...
