Why Some Drummers Are Fooled

In a studio the sound tracks are adjusted to make the drums sound differently.

For example, a 4.5 inch snare could be made to sound like a 6 inch to get a deeper sound.

To make a tom sound deeper and so on.

So what you here in a sound reproduction can fool you ears.

Don't go buy a drum at a store just because that's the way it sounded like whether at a live concert, internet, CD, or what ever.

Go to a store and listen to what you here before you purchase.

Re: Why Some Drummers Are Fooled

I have about a 85% correctness on guessing snares, though some times a shallower snare with a darker sounding wood can get me (bubinga can make it sound an inch darker, the opposite is also possible). Also If they heads are tight or not.
My next goal is to figure out what type of heads on the snares I hear.

When ever I hear a song I think: How tight are the heads and snares, does he do rim shots (can tell if it's metal, also makes it sound a bit lighter), is this a dark wood.

I get your drift. As opposed to listening to other drummers besides the studio alterations.

A really deep snare sound.

Ludwigs were an are more for the blues and jazz sound, even still today.

Keep on drumming brother.

Though in that video sounds like a 5.5 steel. To me I hear Ludwig as a rock company, even if this guy played them: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vPcFCysFHVo

The materials of the shell do in fact affect the tones and sounds of the drum.

Hats off to you in your knowledge.

Though definitely blues rock is one of their top genres, then there's the Beatles.
