Re: Favorite and most influential drum book

My favorite drum book is "The Everything Drum Book" by Eric Starr. It starts with basic drum notation and how to hold the sticks, but gets into really advanced stuff, like solos and odd time signatures. It tells you about how to setup a drumset, as well as what drumheads produce different sounds. Also, when to change sticks, biographys on famous drummers, snare drum exercises, history of rock and roll, as well as jazz, different brush strokes, drumset workouts, and all this other stuff which bored me to death but helped me out in the long run.

Difficulty Level: 4 yr old who's never touched a drumstick - John Bonham.

Realistic Rock by Carmine Appice.
This is the book that, with the help of my then teacher, took me from being percussionist to a drummer and gave me the ability sit behind the kit of bands playing jazz, blues, funk, soul etc.

Already having the ability to read music gave me a head start but if you progress through the book excercise by excercise you learn and appreciate syncopation and collating single snippets on demand allows you to jam with the best at will.....

Recommended for beginners, intermediates and returning drummers alike.
