Reasons why people don't play double bass

So, if people can play with two feet instead of just one, why don't they? What's keeping people from playing double bass? (Myself included) Here's a list of reasons why people don't play double bass and stick to single bass.

1. Can't afford it
2. Takes up too much space (not necessarily true)
3. Don't think they are ready for it yet
4. Their style of music doesn't call for it
5. Don't know what it even is

I think double bass is an important part of drum set playing that every drummer should try and get comfortable with. Even if their style of music doesn't call for it I think it's a good thing to have in a drummer's arsenal of skills. It's a good investment moneywise and you can never get in on double bass drumming too early. Any thoughts?

I would love to play double pedal. I plan to get another one in 2007. I'm trying to hold off as I hurt my left knee.

Long story short, I was playing in the back yard with my family and our dog AJ (He's a Whippet like a Greyhound was running toward me full tilt (about 35 - 40 mph) I went left and so did he. He took me out at the knee. The doctor advised me to give my knee time to heal. I go back in December, so we'll see.

Oh geez, sorry to hear that. Is it a big dog?

Another added to the list.
6. Unable to play double bass because of injured knee.

He's 2' 2" and 28 lbs. So, no he's not big just fast.

Wow, I'd hate to have that happen to me. I do a lot of jazz, so lots of hi-hat.

As far as double bass, I don't have one because they're too expensive, and as I said, I play a lot of jazz, so I really wouldn't use it that much anyways.

You should try playing some double bass triplets in your jazz music. I think that'd be really interesting.

I was taught from day one of my drum set lessons to use my hi hat so that is helping me to recover.

Yeah, I'll have to try that out if I can get my hands on a double bass pedal. Maybe I'll talk to a friend of mine who has one, and see if he will let me borrow it, although he probably won't. Acutally, the person that gives me lessons works at a music store, so I might be able to borrow it that way too. Which reminds me I have to test drive a set of hi-hat cymbals I've been wanting as well...

Also, some people may be just lazy. Maybe they think its too hard to learn or too much to practice and they'd rather be spending time on other skills.

What other skills? I think that lazy people are just lazy with everything in general so they never are really able to get better at anything because they put everything off.
