My FIRST Drum Set

Sup everyone i used to play in a band but recently been wanting to get my own set. I'm thinking of getting a TAMA rockstar. Are there any good reasonably priced drum sets that anyone can recommend? Any brands betters than others? Any i should stay away from?

Re: My FIRST Drum Set

Tama are excellent drums. Many other manufacturers are worth considering for a first kit:
Ludwig,Sonor,Pearl,Yamaha, amongst others.
Are you thinking of buying new or used?
It is of paramount importance that you try out any kit before you buy, drums are so personal and a big investment.
Good luck.

I actually really like the tama rockstar set but I think that pearl is the best.. but that is just my opinion. Go to your local guitar center or music store and test out different sets to which ones you like. I think a pearl export series would suit you well.

Re: My FIRST Drum Set

On that note, remember that the pearl export is the same manufacture as the pearl forum just with slightly better hardware and finishes. If you wanted to save cash, get the forum and it'll still sound exactly the same.

Those are good kits though, from experience. Poplar wood sounds more like maple or birch. When you're looking into the basswood sounds like rockstar, you're going to get a very deep thud sound, but when you're ready to tune them well and want them to really perform, you won't get much else out of them.

You can hear my poplar export in action at my band sight below
