who else has trouble counting while keeping time?

i have been drumming for about a year now and i was wondering if anyone out there knew of any cool exercises that would help me keep in time or count at the same time. I have a metronome (Boss DB-30) but it has a lot of features and ways to keep time and im just confused about the whole thing. help me if you can

i would say the only way is experience...thats how i learned anyhow. Keeping time and counting is probably the most important piece that takes a lot of practice. A meternome may help, but a better way may be listening to your fav bands, playing along with the drums and counting. I played along with my fav CD's for a good 2-3 years.

TO Hardgrooves I have been playing drums over 40 years and now I teach drums and all I can tell you is that I never used a metrenome if your having trouble with your timing after a year then the habits that you have gotten yourself into may not be that good if your having trouble keeping time. Unfortunately there is no quick fix to this, there isn't any cool exercises or any songs that teach timing, if your serious then take some lessons and start out right instead of guessing what to do.GOOD SLINGERLAND

I guess I could say I count off beats, hard to explain, hats hats hats hats SNARE hats hats hats SNARE... the off beat is a louder thought in my head.
