Re: Drummers Health

There's a lot of science in bicycling. It's easy to hook someone up and generate all kinds of data about how fast they're pedalling, how much power they're generating, and resulting heart rates. You can use pulse upon awakening to determine if you've been overtraining or undertraining, and workouts are designed to spend a specific amount of time at 50%, 60%, and on up to 200% of threshold power. That's how serious bicyclers improve their fitness.

It couldn't be that hard to hook up a drummer to record pedal and hand/arm speeds, strike forces, and heart rates. If enough drummers are dying of heart attacks, someone ought to study it.

I know that for serious bikers, recovery time is important after a hard workout. The top bikers don't ride full tilt every day. Do drummers get appropriate recovery time after hard workouts? Do they carefully adjust the percentages of maximum effort they use to increase their fitness?

Re: Drummers Health

I think it would benefit us drummers for sure and make sure we adopt more healthy lifestyles..you could use a V2o max test when you drum and breath into a machine that monitors air intake and lung capacity. body fat distribution and heart rate monitor. Possibly test brain alpha and beta waves and blood sugar levels and also dehydration checks.I think we would be surprised at the amount of strain and stress we place on our bodies.

Re: Drummers Health

Thanks for the link. When I started this year in drumming, I got few minor injuries then after few months, I got used to these injuries.

Re: Drummers Health - SOMEONE PLEASE HELP ME

Hi,

You want to make sure that your seat height is not too high or too low. You also need to make sure that you are sitting up straight with all of this in mind. Take a break for a few days as well to let yourself heal. Good luck!
