Question Buying First Set...Any Advice?

I'm 21 with some experience playing and i'm looking to buy my first set. I'm hoping to get a good sounding used 5-piece set for under $600, and would like to get some advice before I buy. I think I've found a few decent used full 5-piece sets. Here are 4 I am considering:

- Tama Swingstar (Barely Used) w/ cowbell

- Yamaha Rydeen (Barely Used)

- Tama Imperialstar w/ Sabian B8 cymbals & Camber II series hi hats

- PDP (don't know model) w/ New Evans EC2 heads & Evan EMAD Bass Head, Cowbell and Tambourine

All of the sets are in the $500-600 range and include cymbals, equipment, throne, and bass pedal.

ANY SUGGESTIONS???

I'm glad you're considering used I think that's the way to go. All of the sets you listed are fairly close in value, construction, etc. I would look them all over and pick the one that looks to be in the best condition. The cymbals with the one set are really pretty entry level, and you'll want to replace them in the near future, so I wouldn't weigh that too heavily in your decision.

The tama imperialstar is deffinately a good beginner set, poplar is a much more progressi e wood type than basswood. I can't gauge the pdp without the series but if it's maple or birch and the hardware is strong and adaptable, then go for it.

If the set is decent, I would go with Skinslappers advice.
