Re: The New v/s The Old Drum Battle

What are you looking for quanity or quality ? hard to have both. Speed or distance ? My first set was a new Rogers from the factory in 1958 blue sparkle wow that was then I could,t play fast then and now at age 67 I still cant play fast, but the other players love the way I.m in the grove, not fast but solid. I admire the young players of today with all of the styles. Anyway all I know is boom chuckaboom and works for me. jz.

Re: The New v/s The Old Drum Battle

Greetings Jack, my first kit was a 1959 Ludwig Black Onyx 5piece Rock Kit. Lots of memories with that kit. Quality or quantity really isn't the issue. Slang would probably be more appropriate. I'm 58 and my son is 22. Two completely different eras.
In our time we learned to play collectively and creatively. Also there would be questions about who played better or who played the fastest. They were more about drum jam sessions and stick twirling than battles. And who was the fanciest drummer.

Today it's not all about speed for the x-gen and not much creativity. It's a combination of the two. I like my son's 200bpm style as much as I still enjoy the old style. So lets not get fooled by the title of this thread.

I was teasing Mr. Infero about Mr. Phil, and now Mr. Alec57 seems I was a bit too harsh. Well I guess that there were four wise monkeys and not only three. If we were to talk the old lingo, they wouldn't understand us either. Just like texting today does not compute to me.

Now if that takes care of the flim flam and jigging without a Zootsuit. Betcha the chickens are all coming to roost after all the cows come home after this.

Talking Re: The New v/s The Old Drum Battle

well gee whiz, I don't know about that. I've got some other things to discuss first with Mr. Phil and Mr. Jack. Now that you've got a nemesis on your side Alec57.

So I guess that the battle begins here at this thread.

Re: The New v/s The Old Drum Battle

Only four members have replied and it's only been three days ago that I posted this thread. Us older drummers paved the way for the x-gen and you want to forget about it.

I'll wait to see if anyone else might be interest in having fun on this thread. Then in a couple of days, should Mr. Skinslapper or Mr. Der Trommler the two senior MOD's decide to shut this thread down, then that will be the end of it.

How does that sound to you guys?

I was only looking for other drummers opinions, young as well as old.
