Re: Best Shoes for Drumming

Hey Gus!

Ooooh, I have to show my inneptitude here and say I have never heard of Valiant Thorr, but I have heard of drummers wearing boxing or wrestling shoes. A bit constricting for me, like climbing shoes. I believe DW's drumming shoe is based on this design. They look like they are anyway. I have been wearing my Van's now for about a month and they are breaking in nicely for the drumming. And they are just so cool!

Hi amylee,

Well I suppose you are right, but the only shoes I feel comfortable with are ones that give me a really good feel for the pedals, as close to being barefoot as possible. The Vans' work pretty well. Lately I have been wearing my aquatic sandals to gigs since it's Summer and fairly warm.

Re: Best Shoes for Drumming

Heres why:

Re: Best Shoes for Drumming

I have found that pretty much whatever shoes I am wearing, I can drum equally as well. I don't think I could drum in shoes with particularly high heels but other than that, no restriction. I've even found I can drum well in flip flops although they are not my first choice in drumming shoes. My first would be a comfortable pair of tennis shoes......any brand as long as they are comfortable. Most recently, I played in a pair of pin striped Chuck Taylors as I performed at a dress up occasion. Nice.

When I did wear shoes i really loved my New Balance 473's. They are the lightest, comfyist running shoes I have tried.

I always wore socks.. But I just got some new Nike 5 T-1 Turf shoes.
They weigh 9.4 ounces. Pretty light for shoes. They work great though.

i have tried all sorts dont recomend wincle pickers like Ringo star wore..or any leather with slippy bottoms fatal.... shoes without a rubber sole...heels are no good so women's 9 inch killer heels no good... heels are out and high plat form shoes 70s no good...

I wear mostly basket ball trainers got a nice collection of converse.... at the moment i have a real comfy pair of double front zip up boots ultra light called king Pavers...thermal teflon like soft snow boots ankle high....so light its like bare feet......no good in California too hot

Re: Best Shoes for Drumming

A metal drummer needs steel toe caps or foundry boot so he can put his foot through the bass drum
