Re: Best Shoes for Drumming

funny. my 2cents

thick athletic socks.

i always practiced in socks and for some reason when i'd go out to gig i'd be all dressed up or whatever. finally one night i made a bad shoe choice and HAD to take them off and grooved. also if you're only wearing socks it's easy to reach down and pop some toes, rub the arch loose to stave off a charlie horse and what not.

but i also used plain old flatbottom vans for a long time. even those are a tad heavy for me. i wear 13's so, the less in the way the better.

I just got a pair of new balance running shoes which are thin soled and light all around and I just acquired a DW 5000 pedal. Tell me your opinions of this setup.

Any thing DW needs good muscle tone and balance.

Foot comfort is another spectrum.

Yeah those vans are ok . Also converse all stars are popular. I just like flat thinner shoes more like a sneaker, really so far. It's still the preference of the user. I asked an old time drummer What is the best this or that! And his answer was simple. The best one is the one that you will practice with everyday.

Re: Best Shoes for Drumming

I wear leather sandals around the house and in my workshop, and that is what I started playing in---I play heel up, so it really shouldn't matter, but I can tell the difference in speed when I try to play with shoes on---guess I'm stuck with the sandals

Re: Best Shoes for Drumming

I recently stumbled across some shoes that work really well for me. I was shopping for some new shoes for use at the gym and came across Inov-8 shoes. Their idea for shoes is a more natural shoe with less rise in the heel. I happened to have them on one day when I went to rehersal and was surprised that they were extremely comfortable to play drums in and gave really good dexterity and feel on the pedals. The shoes I have are F-Lite 220's. I'll be ordering another pair(maybe even lower heel rise models) for drumming soon.
