It depends on what you mean by geeks. Everyone is a geek in some respect. If I wasn't a geek, I wouldn't have time to write lessons and share youtube videos with you all! If you keep being a constructive geek, that's when you'll have the most payoff!

I don't think so. I'm not like that and to my knowledge, my drummer friends aren't either. And we all play different, or at least slightly different, styles of music.

Me Personally, I was in Marching Band, Jazz Band , Concert Band , The Pep Band. I still love cartoons, I'm a "Trekkie"(I love Star-Trek), I was a clown in school and I'm a clown now. I really think things like this is what individualizes one drummer from another.

Re: Are drummers geeks

Drummers have their own way of seeing things. To some people it might be weird,
But then again its hard to stereotype drummers now. Being weird is an opinion of someone. One person might think your weird, but someone else might think your cool.
Its all about how people think of u. So, the only time your weird is when u think u r.
Don't let people judge you. THATS weird. U r who u r. Its up to u if your cool or not.
A nice little pep-talk from Infero Exicution. PEACE!!!

Re: Are drummers geeks

The older I get the more I'm convinced that drummers are a special breed of people. I think it has to do with the rhythms we hear in our heads all the time (I'm not the only one am I?) and the urge to play those rhythms with our hands, feet or voice. I wouldn't say I'm a nerd. But I was a shy, shut-in as a kid, spending hours practising while others socialized. Then drumming gave me self-confidence and I've never looked back!

Re: Are drummers geeks

Drummers are totally geeks. I took up drums because I was never out partying or gettin laid, had a lot of free time on my hands. It takes dedication to want to invest money and energy into such a big instrument. total geeks.

Ha, Ha Skin,
I like your "take" on the geek theme a lot!! I DID socialise and DID The Girl THing, while I was drumming, that's why you could afford a nicer kit than I had/have!

My social "circle" shrunk quite a lot because of all the glasses I broke on the various parties, while demonstrating my triplets on the edge of the glass with a spoon or fork.
Or dented metal ashtrays with a couple of coins put to use to hammer out a Charleston pattern.

The girls got freaked out by my continuous finger tapping on the steering wheel of my car, something I still do, to the chagrin of my family, but my three grand children are great supporters!

What about trying 15000 sticks and settling just for those that nobody else seem to play with, just to be original.
Or sit after a gig at the bar with some fellow drummer friends and get into (at nausea) a heated debates about: drum heads, kickpedals, etc, etc, etc, AND how frigging stupid base players are, huh, huh!!!

But would that make me a geek?
I think so!!

Cheers and happy drumming

Harry
